New-to-Kansas City Nonprofit Works to Address Diversity Gap in Advertising
Think fast: In the past year, what creative ideas garnered national attention and landed flat, leaving many to ask why didn’t anyone say something? While many agencies have created values and commitments around diversity and inclusion, how does that play out in the very rooms where ideas are born? What do we say when we believe something may not be appropriate—even offensive? And who is sitting at the table to serve as a sensitivity filter for those ideas?
“The BrandLab’s annual Fearless Conversation event brings together industry leaders to discuss the subject of race in the marketing and advertising industry,” says Ghadeer Garcia, executive director, BrandLab, Kansas City. “This year, we’ll talk about how we can create a safe space within our agencies to explore uncomfortable conversations, and learn to create not only great work, but mutual understanding.”
