Job Description: 

Thruline Marketing is seeking a Content Editor to join the team growing its owned and operated consumer websites. This is a new position that will enable us to publish more pages and serve our consumers with higher-quality content.


As a Content Editor, you will be a pivotal part of reinventing our websites to serve users who are researching going to school to improve their career prospects in a variety of fields. To do this, you will execute on our content strategy, develop our freelance pool of writers and editors, and put your stamp on pages seen by thousands of users on the web. You’ll also manage relationships internally with website managers and collaborate with content marketers on the team.


We’re looking for candidates who:

Take pride and pleasure in polishing copy for ease of reading

Can take feedback well—and effectively provide constructive feedback to others

Use business judgment to balance high editorial standards with output quantity

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a writing-heavy field
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years in a full-time editorial position in online media OR 4 years freelancing with predominantly online media clients
  • Excellent line editing skills and attention to detail – typos and factual inaccuracies embarrass you, on the very rare occasions they slip through
  • Knowledge of current SEO principles and how they apply to online editorial choices
  • Project management skills – you have always been organized and pride yourself on meeting deadlines
  • Track record successfully managing ongoing relationships where feedback is important

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HTML
  • Domain knowledge in or prior experience developing content related to higher education, vocational training, or career searches
  • A network of freelance writers and editors who are well-versed in online media
Job Responsibilities: 
  • Edit submissions from freelance writers and editors to ensure readability and adherence to current SEO best practices, and otherwise act as the “last editorial eyes” prior to article or page publication on websites
  • Receive editorial requests from internal stakeholders and turn them into assignment instructions for freelance writers and editors; educate internal stakeholders on content production considerations to cooperatively improve content output
  • Assign work to freelance writers, editors, and consulting subject matter experts; answer questions about assignments
  • Recruit, onboard, and coach freelance writers, editors, and subject matter experts to raise the bar on content quality and increase assignment throughput
  • Collaborate with content operations and strategy manager to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of content production
  • Own and develop the style guide, including working with site managers and content marketers to refine as needed to support different site brands or voices; build on other freelancer documentation about expectations and assignment requirements

Ideally for the existing team, you are based in either the Kansas City metro area or the greater Reno, NV, area. We have employees in both locations. However, for an excellent candidate based elsewhere in the U.S., we will consider a remote employment arrangement with somewhat regular travel to either or both locations.
